BLS Airway Management in Sports Medicine
The purpose of this course is to discuss the appropriateness and use of various airway adjuncts as part of an overall best practice approach to BLS airway management for the professional rescuer practicing in the athletic environment.
MEASURABLE LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
At the conclusion of this course, the participant should be able to:
- Discuss the critical care skills necessary to establish and maintain a patent airway in the setting of an athlete in respiratory distress.
- Evaluate the appropriateness of using various BLS airway adjuncts in the setting of an athlete in respiratory distress.
- Explain the proper use of a bag valve mask to provide respiratory support to an athlete in respiratory distress.
- Explain the indications for use and application of supplemental oxygen in the setting of a critically injured athlete.
- Recognize the proper application of various basic life support techniques and airway adjuncts in the setting of a critically injured athlete presenting with respiratory distress.
- Design and implement an interdisciplinary and collaborative best practice BLS airway management approach for your practice setting.
KNOWLEDGE CHECK ASSESSMENTS
A knowledge check will follow the conclusion of each lesson. A 75% or better is required to pass each knowledge check and proceed to the next lesson. Participants who do not pass the knowledge check are encouraged to review the lesson materials and retake the knowledge check as often as required to obtain a passing score.
